Calvary Rescue Mission MIT helps homeless men in the Memphis area.

Thanksgiving Dinners

This is a great time to help. The day prior to Thanksgiving, volunteers are asked to help distribute food boxes within the local community to needy families. The volunteers participate along with the staff and men from the mission.  For Thanksgiving Day itself, food dishes are always welcomed and opportunities for food service and table bussing will be equally appreciated.  We have had member from Grace help out with this in the past.

Daily Chapel Services

Daily evening chapel services for Calvary men provide many opportunities for sharing personal testimonies and helping with music. All men at the mission are required to attend these evening services. Many preachers for local churches help out. In the past, our Men’s Ministry has used this as an opportunity for service. Randy Rhea organized it prior to his departure and it could easily be reconstituted as an opportunity for our MIT involvement.

Business Men Luncheon

This occurs on the first Tuesday of every month from September to June. Both men and women are welcomed. We service “Robert’s famous fried chicken” for a nominal 5 dollar charge. Following the meeting, we have a chapel service with music and testimonies form local supporters in the community. As an example, our broad range of speakers has included everyone from City Mayor A.C. Wharton to the senior pastor at Bellevue Baptist Church.  Our MIT from Grace would be a great addition and very welcomed at these luncheons.

Annual Open House and Celebration Dinner

These are mission awareness activities that are planned in the Spring during the first week of April so they do not interfere with Easter week. The Open House occurs at the Mission itself and the Celebration Dinner is planned at different host church locations each year. Lots of work and planning go into these activities so help from MIT volunteers would be greatly appreciated.

How will the gospel be proclaimed?

The gospel is proclaimed every day to the men of Calvary Rescue Mission. Approximately 35 men enjoy room and board in this Christ centered facility. Brother Bob Freudiger, an ordained minister is the mission’s Executive Director. Mandatory chapel service is held daily for the men. At every chapel service they hear visiting preachers proclaim the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Since its beginning back in 1967, over 20,000 men have prayed to receive Christ.
